He was born on March 24, 1946 to Mark Leo and Lorena Acord Melson and was the 2nd of 9 children. He graduated from Davenport High School in 1964. He was a lifelong parishioner and active supporter of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church. Mark married his high school sweetheart Carol James on November 7, 1964. Mark began his career at Fred Jones Remanufacturing where he worked until his retirement in 1995. Mark then began working for Acord Transportation where he worked from 1995 until his 2nd retirement in 2015. But Mark could never truly retire and began reading meters for the City of Chandler, always had cattle to work, and always found a chore to be completed. Mark never met a stranger and was always lending a helping hand to anyone who needed it. If anything was broken, Mark could surely fix it. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend.

Preceding him in death are his parents, one brother - Anthony Dean Melson and one grandchild - Rylie Hope Gibson.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, his four children and their spouses - Glenn and Amy Melson, Shelley and Royce Lyon all of Davenport, Marquita and Jeremy Gibson of Chandler and Brian and Maureen Melson of Dallas, Texas; one aunt Sr. Martha Therese (Margaret Helen) of Duarte, Calif; brothers and sisters-in-law - James and Allison Melson, Carl “Gene” and Edna Melson, Mike and Sheila Melson, and Rick and Darla Melson, all of Chandler; sisters Shirley Holleman and Mary Anderson of Chandler, and sister and brother-in-law Barbara and Allen Smith of Oklahoma City; Grandchildren - Derik (Hannah) Melson, Sierra (Levi) Lee, Braden Melson, Whitney, Shelbey, Tyler (Mari), Hunter and Tanner Lyon, Jentrie and Jerett Gibson and Boston and Jersey Melson; great-grandchildren - Waylon Melson, Easton Lee and Cristian Munoz; many nieces, nephews and extended family.

Visitation with family will be Sunday from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Parks Brothers Funeral Home in Chandler.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 am, Monday, October 8, 2018 at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church and interment will be at The Chandler Catholic Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to: The OLS Hall Building Fund, P.O. Box 543, Chandler, OK 74834.
