John Wayne Garland, a longtime resident of Paden, was reunited with his loving wife, on January 19, 2021 at the age of 80. He was born on June 28, 1940 in Paden, Oklahoma. He was the son of Homer Earl and Mary Hazel (Dukes) Garland. John was born and raised in Paden. He was proud graduate of Paden High School and called Paden home for most of his life. On December 9, 1960, John married the love of his life, Florene Lakins and the two were happily married until her death July 1, 2018. John was a member of the Prague First Assembly of God Church.
John was a land surveyor by trade. He worked for the Oklahoma Department of Transportation until his retirement. Upon retiring, John drove a school bus for Paden Public Schools for 15 years. He loved driving the kids and loved taking care of them. He would often have a giant bucket of bubble gum for his passengers. Each Christmas, he would treat them to a gift.
As a young man, John was an avid hunter and fisherman. As he got older, he took to sitting on his back porch and watching for deer and birds. John also loved to watch westerns on television.
John was preceded in death by his loving wife, Florene Garland; one son, Bobby Wayne Garland; his parents; sister, Doris Lee Garland; brother, William Garland; sister, Ella Deloris (Garland) Nieto and brother, Bobby Earl Garland.
John is survived by his daughter, Angelia Britt and her husband Gerald of Stratford and his granddaughter, Susan Stone and her husband Mark of Paden and a special nephew, Rick Lakins.
