Anna Lou Waters Swann

swann-a-l

Appril 19, 1933 ~ September 16, 2022

The last of those sweet little Waters kids has rejoined her family in Our Heavenly Father's Home; she is walking those streets of gold, swinging her arms and singing! We rejoice that she is no longer suffering with the dreaded Dementia disease. She was a beautiful daughter, sweet sister, loving wife, wonderful mother, beloved grandma and cherished aunt by her many nieces and nephews.

Anna Lou was born on April 19, 1933 in Davenport, Oklahoma to Alfred Parks and Mildred Leona (Townsley) Waters. She departed this life on September 16, 2022 in Stroud, Oklahoma at the age of 89. She attended Davenport schools and graduated in 1951. After graduation she worked at Sutton Drug Store in Stroud. While working in the drug store, she met Steve Swann. They were married on October 17, 1954 in Drumright. Steve brought to this union three sons, Terry, Dale and Don. Steve and Anna Lou made their home in Davenport. Anna Lou and Steve welcomed their son Steven Tim on April 20, 1959 and surprise, surprise, surprise, a daughter, Patricia (no middle name, thanks Dad) on July 21, 1965. Steve passed away on February 11, 1987.

The Swann's were faithful and active members of the First Christian Church, (Disciples of Christ) in Davenport for many years. Steve served in various capacities from Deacon, Elder to Chairman of the Board. Anna Lou served as a Sunday School Teacher, Deacon, Treasurer of the church, and maker of punch for many, many church events. She was active in the CWF and the Ladies Aid. In May of 2012, Anna Lou and Patty started attending First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Stroud.

Anna Lou loved her Lord, her family, her church and her town. After Steven and Patty were school age, Anna Lou would assist her sister, Lois who was the Town Clerk for Davenport. Anna Lou started helping with the end of month billing and first of the month collections. During this time, Leroy Guest was the Treasurer for the Town of Davenport. At that time, it was a volunteer position. He took Anna Lou under his wing when he was ready to retire as Treasurer. He taught her the ins and outs of town business. At this time, it became an elected position. She retained the position of Town Treasurer for approximately 28 years. She retired in November of 2007 due to the beginning signs of Dementia.

She was preceded in death by her parents, A.P. and Mildred Waters: husband, Steve; step-son and his wife Dale and Lynda Swann: brothers, Alfred Parks, Jr., E.E. Sam' Kenneth Gerald, Daniel Edward (Breezy), Billy Ray; sisters, Lois Rose, Betty Zoe, Virginia Jean and Patricia Lee; nephew, Doug Bromley; nieces, Jill Ann Waters and Paulette Reedy.

Survivors include her son, Steven and his wife Cindy of OKC; daughter, Patricia of Davenport; granddaughters, Anna Kathryn (Katy) of NYC and Molly Elizabeth and her husband Andy Leeuwenburg of Lakenheath AFB in the United Kingdom; sister-in-law, Betty Waters of Davenport; stepsons, Terry and his wife Shirley of Lubbock, TX, Don and his wife Gerri of OKC; the children and grandchildren of Terry, Dale and Don; nieces, nephews other relatives and many friends.

In lieu of flowers the family requests expressions of sympathy to the Memorial Fund at First Christina Church (Disciples of Christ) PO Box 417, Stroud, OK 74079.

The family would life to thank Stroud Nursing Center for all their love and wonderful care of their Mom. God has a special place in Heaven for caregivers. We would also like to thank the members of FCC in Stroud for "looking out for Mom" while Patty played the piano.
