GEORGE ADDISON YOUNG
1918 - 2000
George Addison Young died March 24 in San Diego, California. He was 82.He was born March 22, 1918, near Argonia, Kansas. He was the son of Charles A. and Nellie Cora Hutchison Young.He graduated from Argonia High School and attended Phillips University in Enid from 1935-37. He received his degree from Central State University in 1940.He married Avis Darlene Bontty on February 8, 1941, in San Antonio, Texas.Young served in the U.S. Army Corps during World War II as the commanding officer of the 83rd Squadron of the 12th Bomb Group in Africa and finished his active duty as a lieutenant colonel.He operated a dairy farm north of Prague until 1964.He received his master's in education from the University of Oklahoma in 1967. In 1968, he moved to California and worked as a psychologist in the San Diego School System.He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.Survivors include his wife, Avis Young, of the home, LaMesa, California; two sons, George Addison Young, II and James Aaron Young; one daughter, Anne Darlene Young; two brothers, Charles H. Young, Southlake, Texas; Col. John N. Young, Colorado Springs, Colorado; two sisters, Rosa Lee Dennis, Dothan, Alabama; Virginia Mathis, Edmond; four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews; as well as numerous friends.Memorial services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the Parks Brothers Funeral Home Chapel in Prague with Tim Emmons officiating.Burial will follow in the Prague Cemetery.Published June 8, 2000.
