1917 - 2011
Stroud — Edgar Elvis Young, 93, died Monday, July 4, 2011, in Stroud.He was born July 7, 1917, in Prague to Walter Frank and Hattie Mae Wilson Young.He married Pearl Leota Lynch on May 4, 1940, in Chandler.He was inducted into the United States Army on December 23, 1942, reporting to Camp Roberts, California, and was given a medical discharge on March 29, 1943, after contracting and surviving spinal meningitis.Edgar lived most of his life in Oklahoma, being a resident at different times of Prague, Stroud, Seminole, and Shawnee, and in earlier years short stays in California and Wyoming. He had various occupations through the years, with his last employment before retirement being in the plumbing and electrical departments for the Shawnee Public School system.He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Frances Irene Nutter, of Stroud; two brothers, Silas Young, of Prague; and Plez Young, of California; one sister, Hallie Lynch, of Prague; and son-in-law, Jack Weatherford, of Stroud.Survivors include his wife of 71 years, Pearl Young, of the home; daughter, Linda Young, of Stroud; grandson, Jason Teague Nutter, of Ada; and other family and friends.Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 8, 2011, at Parks Brothers Funeral Chapel in Prague with Herman Searcy officiating.Interment will follow at Kellerby Cemetery in Sparks.Services are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service in Prague.A guestbook is available to share your memories online.
