George D. “Corky” Worthy, a longtime Cushing resident, passed away on Thursday, August 4, 2016 at Linwood Village in Cushing at the age of 78.George “Corky” was born on May 17, 1938 in Cushing, Oklahoma to the late John Williamson and Alta May Rodgers Worthy.He grew up in Cushing and attended various schools in Payne county before entering the U.S. Army in 1960 where he served as a Medic. Corky returned back to Cushing from the service in 1962.He married the love of his life, Luanne Grisso on January 15, 1960 in Cushing and to this union Christi and Missy were born. They made their home in Cushing on a farm/ranch where they have resided since.He worked for Kerr McGee for a few years then began his career in drilling water wells, oilfield business and taking care of the ranch. Corky enjoyed taking care of his cattle, horses and his mules. He was very knowledgeable about cattle, land and the oil business.They were members of the First Baptist Church in Slick. He had served in the past on the Oak Grove School Board and belonged to the Oklahoma Brangus Association. Corky loved spending time with his family especially his granddaughters.Corky is survived by his wife of 56 years, Luanne of the home, daughters, Christi Robinson of Cushing and Missy Donaldson and husband Jimmy J. of Cushing, brothers, Billy Ray Worthy and wife Etta of Agra and Roger D. Worthy and wife Ann of Los Lunas, New Mexico, sisters-in-law, Clara Worthy of Disney and Opal Stidham of Shawnee and granddaughters, Gabrielle Robinson and Audrey Donaldson.He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Melvin “Bud” Worthy, Eugene Arvil Worthy and Wayne Bertran Worthy, sisters, Vada June Worthy Cook, Betty Jane Worthy DeLong and Bonnie Lucille Worthy Childress and his longtime mule, “Burt”.Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 6, 2016 at the Chapel of Palmer Marler Funeral Home, Cushing, Oklahoma. Reverend Steve Lamberson will officiate.Interment will follow at Flynn Cemetery, Cushing, Oklahoma.Arrangements are entrusted to Palmer Marler Funeral Home, Cushing, Oklahoma.
