HENRY LEON WOOD
1932 - 2007


Henry Leon Wood, longtime Cushing resident, passed away on Saturday, August 25, 2007 in the Cushing Regional Hospital at the age of 75 years.
The son of the late Henry E. Wood and Edith Hagar Wood, Leon was born on July 15, 1932 in Cushing and was reared and educated in Carney.
He enlisted in the United States Army on January 23, 1951, and received his honorable discharge on January 6, 1954, serving his time in Germany. Following his discharge he entered Oklahoma State University and became a Lt. Col. in the ROTC, graduating from OSU with a teachers certificate.
He was married to Patricia Fitchett on October 11, 1952 and to this union three children, John, Mindy and Glen were born. The couple had lived in Oklahoma City for 13 years prior to moving back to Cushing where he owned and operated the Wood Music House. He later left the music store and became a truck driver instructor at Vo-Tech, retiring after 10 years.
Leon was a member of the Cushing Christian Church; he enjoyed working in his workshop, trading pick-ups, fishing, teaching young people the value of music in their lives, playing the bass guitar with his friends and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife of over 55 years, Patricia Wood of the home; three children, John Wood and his wife Jeri of Claremore; Mindy Kirkpatrick and her husband Rod of Cushing; and Glen Wood and his wife Judi of Edmond; six grandchildren, Patrick Hunter and his wife Susan; Jaden Hunter, Kylie Hunter, Rebecca Wood, Jana Weidower and Shandi Treat; three great-grandchildren, Hadlee Treat, Ryan Weidower and Mia Weidower; two brothers, John Wood and his wife Mary of California; and Ed Wood of Wyoming; one sister, Nancy of California and other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister.
Services will be held on Wednesday, August 29, 2007 at 2:00 P.M. in the Cushing Christian Church with Reverend Curtis Mason and Reverend Larry Lehr officiating.
Burial will follow in the Fairlawn Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, Leukemia Research; forms may be picked up in the office of the Davis Funeral Home.
