VIOLET MAE WOODEN
1933 - 2010


Violet Mae Wooden, 77, passed away at Norman Regional Hospital on November 6, 2010, surrounded by her family.
She was born south of Chandler, Oklahoma on April 30, 1933, to Robert V. Wooden and Anna E. Miller Wooden. She was the fifth of eight children.
She graduated from Davenport High School, where she was known around the county for her superb basketball playing.
She later married and had six children.
Violet was a loving Christian mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who greatly enjoyed family activities, researching family genealogy, listening to country and gospel music and pulling for Oklahoma State University football.
She retired from AT&T and later worked for H&R Block in Shawnee and Del City, and then owned and operated one in Chandler for several years.
She had a great spirit, a strong will to live and a desire to be independent. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends because of her love and loyalty to them.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Lewis Wooden.
She is survived by her children, Butch King and wife Laurie of Grenada, Mississippi; Linda Shipp of Sherman, Texas; Patti Miller and husband Paul of Moore, Oklahoma; Jayne Humphreys and husband David of Blanchard, Oklahoma; Joyce James and husband Joe of Moore, Oklahoma; and Jody King of Moore, Oklahoma; fourteen grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three brothers; three sisters; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 9, 2010 at New Zion Cemetery, Chandler, Oklahoma.
Services are under the direction of John M. Ireland Funeral Home and Chapel, Moore, Oklahoma.
