STEVEN LYNN WOFFORD
1947 - 2016
Steven Lynn Wofford was born June 11, 1947 in Webb City, Missouri to James Alec Wofford and Stella Mae Tabor. He passed away May 5, 2016 in Oklahoma City at the age of 68 from Aggressive/Invasive Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.Steve was a graduate of Wellston High School Class of 1965.He joined the Army in 1966 and was stationed in Okinawa, Japan in 1969 during the Vietnam War. While serving in the U.S. Army he was also stationed at Ft. Bliss, El Paso, Texas where he met the love of his life, Barbara Ann Weatherford and were later married in 1969.Steve then worked for the Shawnee Post Office and then became the Fallis Post Master.He later went to work for Tinker Field as a sheet metalist and then an electrician on the B-52 Bomber Aircrafts. He was able to take an early out and retired at age 45.After retirement, Steve enjoyed farming and ranching, fishing and deer hunting, and most of all running his hounds and spending time with his friends and family.He was proud of his Cherokee Nation Indian Heritage.Steve was preceded in death by his father, James Wofford.Survivors include his wife, Barbara, of the home; mother, Stella, of the home; son, David Hart of Chandler; daughter, Stacey Lynn and her husband Travis Russell of Wellston; sister, Vicky and her husband Frank Fry of Newalla; grandchildren, James Hart and Braden Wofford; nephew, Collin Fry and many other family and friends.A funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at the Missionary Baptist Church with interment following in the Wellston Cemetery.Arrangements are under the direction of Lehman Funeral Home of Wellston.
