1931 - 2009
Darnell Philip Withrow, age 77, of Tryon, Oklahoma, died January 12, 2009, at his home in Tryon.He was born January 27, 1931, in Hot Springs, Sierra County, New Mexico to Roy and Roma Glascock Withrow.Phil, as he was commonly known, served in the U.S. Air Force.He was retired from the Union Pacific Railroad in Marysville, California.Phil was Local Chairman and Financial Secretary for The Brotherhood of Railroad Signalmen, Local 229, and served in that capacity for a number of years. He also served on the Yuba County, California Planning Commission.His hobbies included flying, ham radio and watching World War II movies. After moving to Oklahoma in 2005, he enjoyed working on his ranch and loved country living.Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Lola Withrow, two daughters, Phyllis and husband, Neil O'Shaughnessy of Yuba City, California and Denise and husband, David Osborne of Chandler, Oklahoma, a sister, Barbara Smith of Jamestown, California, seven grandchildren, Alan Philip Scovill and wife, Karen of Chandler, Melissa Fitzsimmons and husband, Douglas of Sacramento, California, Neil Alan O'Shaughnessy and Priscilla O'Shaughnessy of Yuba City, Calfornia, Steven Philip Withrow and wife, Denise of Tryon and Jacob and Belle Osborne of Chandler, twelve great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.He leaves behind long-time friends, Eddie and Jean Vandenburg of Sparks, Oklahoma, John and Jackie Pointer of Wheatland, California and Don and Dora Moler and Wilbur and Sandy Wright of Marysville, California.He will be greatly missed, his memory will live in our hearts forever.Graveside services were held on Wednesday, January 14, 2009 at 2:00 p.m., at Oak Park Cemetery in Chandler with Rev. Derek Bolin officiating.Pallbearers include Alan Scovill, Steven Withrow, David Osborne and James Rigsby.Services were under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service in Chandler.Published January 15, 2009.
