BERTHA MAE WAKLEY
1919 - 2012
Bertha Mae Butler Wakley was born on August 7, 1919, in Lincoln County, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of Hamilton Butler and Minnie Sherman Butler. She departed this life in Chandler, Oklahoma, on March 7, 2012, at the age of 92.Bertha was married to Clyde Wakley, of Chandler, on September 15,1937, in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Of this union two daughters were born, Kay and Clydena.Bertha worked for many years in retail sales some being Boggs Grocery and Mercantile, Hellman's Department Store, Henry's Dress Shop and Wackers Variety Store, in addition to working with her husband on their farm. She also worked part-time at Hillcrest Nursing Home and provided home health care for several years before retiring.Bertha was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one daughter, Kay Caudle, one granddaughter, Melita Caudle, one great-grandchild, Baby Grace Mathis, two sisters, Anna Yates and Addie Smothers, and three brothers, Elard, Nile and Hamilton Buck Butler.Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Clydena and Russell Gillian of Chandler, six grandchildren, J. R. Caudle, Fred and Kay Caudle, Lori Gillian, Erin and B. J. Mathis, ten great-grandchildren and one great-great-grand child. One sister, Edith Cardwell and one brother, Ray Butler also survive her along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.Bertha was a member of Chandler Southern Baptist Church. She loved teaching Sunday school to second graders and did so for over 15 years while a member of The First Baptist Church of Chandler.Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 12, 2012, at Oak Park Cemetery, Chandler, Oklahoma with Chaplain B.J. Mathis, Chaplain Les Hastings and Rev. Fred Caudle officiating.Services are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service in Chandler.
