1929 - 2007
Mary Lois Messer Vickers, a Cushing resident, passed away on Thursday, January 11, 2007 at the age of 77 in the Cushing Regional Hospital.She was born May 3, 1929 in Kendrick, Oklahoma to Lew and Lizzie Messer.She attended Fairview School in Kendrick.Mary was united in marriage to Lee Vickers on August 12, 1950 in Davenport, Oklahoma.The Vickers then moved to San Pedro, California in 1950. Beginning in 1960, Mary started working as a cosmetologist. After moving back to the Cushing area in 1962, Mary opened Mary’s Beauty Shop which she ran until its closing in 1980.Mary and Lee had farmed in Lincoln County until 2001 when they moved into Cushing.She was preceded in death by her parents; seven brothers, Bill Messer, Raymond Messer, Fred Messer, Oscar Messer, Marvin Messer, Albert Messer and Virgil Messer; and three sisters, Ethel Earnest, Mamie Michels and Jewel Jones.Survivors include her husband Lee of the home; one daughter, Carolyn Annis and her husband Bob of Purcell, Oklahoma; one son, Boyd Vickers of Cushing; three grandchildren, Kristin Nowakowski and her husband Ben of McLoud, Oklahoma; Eric Vickers of Norman, Oklahoma; and Heather Vickers of Stillwater, Oklahoma; one great-grandson, Hayden Nowakowski of McLoud, Oklahoma; two sisters, Wanda Treanor of Stroud, Oklahoma; and Bernice DeWitt of Tecumseh, Oklahoma; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 16, 2007 in the First Assembly of God Church in Cushing, with Pastor Robert Adams officiating.Burial will follow in the Parkland Cemetery, Parkland, Oklahoma.Condolences and an online guest book are available at www.palmarlerfh.com.Services have been entrusted to the Palmer Marler Funeral Home, Cushing, Oklahoma.
