1939 - 2009
Allan Dale Shorty Vassar of Tryon, Oklahoma passed from this life on July 9 in Stillwater, Oklahoma.Shorty was born in rural Payne County on October 11, 1939 to Charlie and Dollie Vassar. He was one of ten children.He is survived by his wife, Mary of their home and three daughters, Shelia Brown and husband Larry of Stillwater, Teresa Vassar of Arlington, Texas and Mary and Adam Listerman of Perkins, Oklahoma. He also leaves behind four grandchildren, Zachary Brown, Parker Brown, Tanner Listerman and Lily Listerman, one brother, Charlie Vassar of Cushing, one sister, Mary Smith of Perkins, several nieces and nephews and many beloved friends.Shorty spent many years of his adult life in the military and then returned home to Tryon, Oklahoma to run a family business with his wife Mary. Shorty and Mary raised their family in Tryon.He was a member of the First Christian Church of Tryon.His greatest joy in life was spending time with his wife and family, and he was able to do that this past year. He also enjoyed playing golf with his friends and spending time outdoors with his cows and other animals.Shorty had a unique way of making everyone he met feel special. He had a great sense of humor and was so much fun to be around. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.Visitation will be held Sunday from 1:00 - 6:00 p.m. and Monday from 8:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Palmer Marler Funeral Home in Stillwater.Funeral services will be Tuesday, July 14 at 10:30 a.m. at Sunnybrook Christian Church in Stillwater.Interment will be at the cemetery in Tryon, Oklahoma.Services are under the direction of Palmer Marler Funeral Home, Stillwater.Condolences may be sent using our online guestbook at www.pmcfh.com.
