REV. WILLIAM RUSSELL TURNER
1925 - 2012


Rev. William Russell Turner, age 86, of Wellston, Oklahoma, was born on October 5, 1925, in Baltimore, Maryland.
He was the son of Joseph Odin and Della Mae Gover Turner.
Rev. Turner went to be with the Lord, Saturday, June 2, 2012, in Wellston, Oklahoma.
He graduated from Sparrows Point High School, Baltimore, Maryland, in 1942, and proudly served in the U. S. Marine Corps during WW II.
He married Marjorie Black on June 7, 1952, in Baltimore, Maryland.
Rev. Turner received his B. A. from the Kings College, Briar Cliff Manor, New York; Th. M. from the Dallas Theological Seminary, Dallas, Texas; and M. S. from Oklahoma State University, Stillwater, Oklahoma.
His studies included history, theology and secondary education. He taught high school social studies at Cushing, Oklahoma and Harrah, Oklahoma; was an assistant high school principal at Cushing, Oklahoma, and was the high school principal at Jones, Oklahoma.
He was a Chaplain at the Dallas City, County Boys Home, Dallas, Texas; pastor at Harrison, Arkansas and Cushing, Oklahoma.
He was a member of N.E.A., O.E.A., O.A.S.P., and Son Rise Baptist Church, McLoud, Oklahoma.
His hobbies included fishing, riding horses, golf, building models, building houses, swimming and competitive sports.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Audrey Kane.
Survivors include his wife, Marjorie Turner of the home; son, William R. Turner, Jr., Wellston, Oklahoma; daughter and son-in-law, Martha Ann and Rik Greathouse, Branson, Missouri; three grandchildren, Kelsey Greathouse, Christopher Greathouse and Cody Turner; nieces, Sharon Russell, Havre de Grace, M.D., Lisa Kane, Havre de Grace, M.D., and many other relatives and friends.
Services will be 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 6, 2012, at Asa Smith Memorial Chapel, Harrah, Oklahoma, with Pastor Ron Cherry officiating.
Interment will follow at Jamison Cemetery, McLoud, Oklahoma.
Services are under the direction of Smith-Parks Funeral Service in Harrah, Oklahoma.
