VERN ALFRED STRONG
1918 - 2011


Vern Alfred Strong was born January 24, 1918 in Price Place, Arkansas to Homer and Rutha Johnson Strong. He passed away Tuesday, August 23, 2011 in Stroud, Oklahoma at the age of 93.
Vern's family moved to Oklahoma in 1919 and Vern was raised in the Chandler, Oklahoma area.
He married Ruth Holland April 2, 1951 and raised 2 children together.
Vern and Ruth lived in the Davenport area their married life.
He was a member of the Davenport Independent Baptist Church and worked as a welder and pumper for the Texaco Company for 33 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Earl, Garl, Willard, Raymond, Oather, Adam, Vard; sisters, Mamie Benge, and Margie Strong.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth of the home; son, Hank and wife Glendy Strong; daughter, JoAn and Johnny Miller; four grandchildren, Lucky and wife Amber Miller; Katy and husband Jason Landrum; Mandy and husband Tony Cobb; Crystal and husband Sherwynn McNeal; six great-grandchildren, Jacob, Wade and Bo Landrum, Kale, Logan and Carly Miller.
A funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, August 25, 2011 at the Davenport Independent Baptist Church with interment following at the Davenport Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of Lehman Funeral Home of Wellston.
