1912 - 2011
Mary Goldie Shaver Stewart passed from this life on March 2, 2011.Goldie was born on August 12, 1912 to James Moscow and Effie Reeves Shaver northwest of Carney, Oklahoma.She grew up on the family farm, and after graduating high school went on to earn her teaching certificate and bachelors degree from Central State College. She then taught at Victor School southwest of Carney and spent five years in the one-room elementary schools. She went on to teach five years at Wellston, nine years at Carney, and twenty years with Hoover School in Tulsa, making a total of 39 years in the classroom. During her teaching years she also earned her masters degree in education with Oklahoma A + M College.In September of 1960, she married the love of her life, Gilbert Stewart in the Baptist Church in Carney, a marriage which lasted nearly 50 years.In her spare time, Goldie kept herself busy gardening, canning, sewing and crocheting. She was also an avid watcher of Billy Graham.She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Perkins, and taught Sunday School classes for many years.Goldie was also an accomplished artist, especially with oil paints.Her favorite endeavor however was loving her family, a picture she painted with love and prayer.Survivors include her son, Les Stewart and wife Sharon, numerous nieces, six grandchildren, Kelly Stewart, Doug Stewart, Robby Stewart, Joseph Stewart, Deborah Plymale and Sara Neal Taylor, two great grandchildren, Josh Baker and Katy Baker and son-in-law, Richard Dodrill.She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Gilbert Stewart, three children, Norma Dodrill, Jerry Stewart and Donna Neal and husband Robert, two brothers, Esco Earnest Shaver and wife Ozella and infant, Dennis Shaver and two grandchildren, Tim Stewart and Dora Baker.Services have been entrusted to Palmer Marler Funeral Home of Perkins and will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, March 7, 2011 at the First Baptist Church in Perkins.Burial will follow at Carney Cemetery.Friends may leave condolences for the family via an online guestbook at www.pmcfh.com.
