1925 - 2014
Nelda Marie Lacquement Smith was born Nelda Marie Lacquement on December 1, 1925, to Ladie and Levi Lacquement of Prague.She peacefully departed this world on May 7, 2014, in Tulsa, Oklahoma.Mom was married to her beloved husband, Carl “Barney” Smith, on December 7, 1941. During their marriage of 45 years, they enjoyed many adventures together from the oilfields of Oklahoma to the oilfields of Venezuela and then back to their roots in Prague, Oklahoma, where they farmed and ranched for many years.Nelda was involved with her church at Arlington, was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and sold Avon Cosmetics for 35 years. She often said she never did make much money at it but she enjoyed being out and visiting with her many friends. She often said she was her best customer.Mom was preceded in death by our Dad, Carl Smith. Also preceding her were her brothers, Ralph Lacquement of Montana, R.A. Lacquement of Ft. Worth, and Howard Lacquement of Shawnee, and her sisters, Ruby Stewart of Edmond, Lorene Mannin of Colorado, Bonnie Spitler of Shawnee and Ina Heil of Oklahoma City.She is survived by one sister, Faye Brown of California, her two children, Steve Smith and his wife, Kathy, of Owasso, and Bonnie Smith and her husband, Duane, of Apache. Mom had six grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild.Mom loved to be outside planting her flowers and watching them grow, especially her peaches. Mom loved to read and spent many hours reading to pass the time in later years. She leaves behind many, many friends and she will be greatly missed. Our many thanks to her friends and neighbors that watched out for her when she lived alone on her ranch.Mom’s services will be held on Monday, May 12, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. at Parks Brothers Funeral Chapel in Prague with Rev. Derrek Belase officiating.Interment will follow at Prague Cemetery.Services are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service in Prague.
