REV. MARVIN RAY SKINNER
1933 - 2009
Reverend Marvin Ray Skinner, longtime Cushing resident, passed away on Friday, September 25, 2009 in his home at the age of 76 years.
The son of the late Luri Monroe Skinner and Fannie Isaacs Skinner, Marvin was born on August 31, 1933 in Maramec.
He was raised in the Cushing area, graduating from Norfolk School.
Marvin was united in marriage to Theresa Burnett on December 30, 1964 in the Calvary Baptist Church in Schlegal and to this union three children, Mark, Sheila and Michael, were born.
He had worked for Burkery Creamery for over 28 years prior to his retirement.
His ministry included pastoring at several churches, including the Ripley First Baptist Church, Paradise Baptist Church, Tryon First Baptist Church and was currently the pastor for the Calvary Baptist Church at Schlegal.
He was an avid O.U. football fan and he enjoyed reading, fishing and talking to people.
Survivors include his wife of over 44 years, Theresa Skinner of the home; two sons, Mark Skinner and Michael Skinner, both of Cushing; one daughter, Sheila Painter and her husband Larry of Stillwater; two grandchildren, April and Ashley Skinner; three great-grandchildren, Caitlyn, Randell and Kiara; two sisters, Marie Bolerjack of Berryville, Arkansas; and Lela Harmer of Tulsa; several foster children and foster grand-children; several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Herb, Weldon, Clarence and Jimmie Skinner and three sisters, Helen, Doris and Freda.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 30, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. in the First Baptist Church with Reverend Gary Brown, pastor of the Park Place Baptist Church, officiating. Also speaking will be Pastor Bob Copeland of the Cimarron Baptist Association and Pastor Bob Fowler of the Tryon First Baptist Church.
Burial will follow in the Flynn Cemetery.
Serving as casket bearers will be Jerry Mills, James Beaver, Dan Moody, Bert Hunziker, Howard Tarlton, and Jim Camren. Serving as honorary casket bearers will be Ron Lair, Bradley Westfall and Andrew Burr.
Full military services will be conducted at the cemetery by the Cushing American Legion Post. The family will greet friends on Tuesday evening from 6-8 in the Floyd Family Center, east of the Funeral Home.
