MARY ALICE SAM
1948 - 2015
Mary Alice Sam, of Cushing, Oklahoma, passed away on Tuesday, November 10, 2015 at the age of 67.
Although she stayed at the Grace Living Center in Stillwater for several years, the home place was in Cushing.
Born March 15, 1948, in Cushing, her parents were Albert Sam, Sr., and Oma Hunter Sam Patrick. She was predeceased by her brother, Albert Sam, Jr., and her parents.
Due to an accident at birth, Mary was disabled her entire life, but she never tolerated bullies, and was protective of her playmates, family and friends.
From her youth she went everywhere with her mother attending conferences, meetings, and powwows. Mary also traveled to powwows and other events throughout the United States with her niece, Annette. She was especially happy to see her friends and relatives at tribal social activities and ceremonies.
She leaves her nephews, Wesley Sam and Lloyd Hunter; brother Dennis Jennings; adopted mother Jean Ridinigin; sister Sharon Noah; brother, Harry George Franklin; niece, Annette Hunter Rice and her husband, G. William Rice; nephews, Henry Hunter and Warren Hunter and nieces, Rita Hunter and Harriet Hunter. She also leaves numerous relatives from the Sac and Fox Nation, the Mesquakie Nation in Iowa, and the Nemaha Band of the Sac and Fox Indians of the Missouri in Reserve, Kansas.
Traditional Services will be held on Friday evening at the Sac and Fox Community building located 5 miles south of Stroud, Oklahoma.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, November 14, 2015 at the Hunter Family Cemetery.
