LAWRENCE DALE RAMSEY
1927 - 2016


Lawrence "Dale" Ramsey, 88, joined our heavenly father on January 8, 2016 in Meeker, Oklahoma.
Dale was born April 29, 1927 in Cushing, Oklahoma to Marie and Charles Ramsey.
He graduated from Norfolk High School, served in the 3705th Army Air Force and was honorably discharged on January 15, 1947.
Dale earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Central State University, and his Master’s Degree from Oklahoma State University.
He married the love of his life, Shirley Jean Bowker of Davenport, Oklahoma in 1952. He and Shirley moved to Eugene, Oregon in 1965 where they raised their three children and lived on a quiet farm just outside of Eugene until they retired in 1986.
Dale taught industrial arts at Roosevelt Junior High School in Eugene and at Cleveland High School in Cleveland, Oklahoma. He also coached basketball and football.
He enjoyed a lifetime of hunting and fishing, and working outdoors on the properties he and Shirley owned in Oregon and in Davenport. Dale and Shirley loved to travel in their RV and spent nearly twenty-five years of their retirement traveling across the United States.
Dale was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley; parents, Charles and Marie; and three sisters, Freda, Mary and Rosie.
Survivors include their three children, Jeff Ramsey of Chandler, Dala Gant of Missoula, Montana and Jane Read of Carney; seven grandchildren, Dawn, Shannon, Jerrad, William Dale, McKenzie, Evan and Grant; five great-grandchildren; brothers, Chuck, Bob, Bill and Sig, and sisters, Josie and Maggie.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 16, 2016 at the Presbyterian Church in Davenport with interment following at the Davenport Cemetery.
A reception to meet the family will be held just prior to the service at 1:00 p.m. at the church.
Contributions honoring Dale may be made to the Davenport Presbyterian Church.
Arrangements are under the direction of Lehman Funeral Home of Wellston.
