RONALD RAY PROUGH
1933 - 1996


Ronald Ray Prough, age 63, of Moore, Oklahoma and a former resident of Wellston, Oklahoma died September 26, 1996 at Southwest Integris Hospital, OKC . He was born July 23, 1933 and was the only son of the late George Albra Jr. and Vera G. Wilson Prough.
He was a graduate of Wellston High School, class of 1952. After graduation he went on to Oklahoma A&M College in Stillwater, Oklahoma, and then to Central State University in Edmond, Oklahoma. After his graduation he accepted a job as a public educator and spent the next 25 years teaching before he retired in 1988. He took a brief retirement only to start teaching again in the private sector for the next 5 years. “Children are the only form of immortality that we can be sure of.”- Peter Ustinov
On May 01, 1961 he married Katherine V. Reed Prough in Kay County, Oklahoma. Together, they had two children. They were married fifteen years until the marriage ended in divorce. He married shortly after to Donna L. Barnes Knight in Cleveland County, Oklahoma.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Wellston, Oklahoma and was a past Treasurer, and also a member of the Masonic Lodge#369.
Ray’s special interests and hobbies included raising his family, playing cards with his buddies, painting old cars and trailers and in the earlier years working with his cattle on the farm in Fallis, Okla., Section 27, Tohee Township north of Wellston.
Some of his favorite times out and about was when we would have dinner every Friday evening at Aunt Viola McLin’s house in Wellston. Being a part time bouncer at the Diamond Ballroom on weekends, he got to see and hear the professional singers. He also enjoyed his part time job driving school buses for the Biology class to take samples of water all over the state.
He is survived by wife Donna of Moore, Okla., one daughter Trisha K. Ford and husband Terry of Wellston, Okla., Three sons Jeff and wife Reyes of Jacksonville, FL, Scott and wife Penny of Okla. City, Randy of unknown address, five grandchildren, the mother of two of his children Kathy Prough of Wellston, Okla., other relatives and friends.
The funeral will be held at the First Baptist Church in Wellston with Rev. Todd Fisher officiating, with interment following in the Wellston Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home of Chandler.
