ARCHIE M. POUNDS SR.
1918 - 2004
Archie M. Pounds, Sr., 85 years old of Glenpool, Oklahoma passed away March 4, 2004 at Southcrest Hospital, Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Mr. Pounds was born November 7, 1918 to Thomas F. Pounds and Roxie Stidham Pounds in Chandler, Oklahoma.
He married Opal Mary Earp January 7, 1940 at Chandler, Oklahoma.
Mr. Pounds served in the Oklahoma National Guard.
He loved people and his family. He enjoyed telling stories about growing up on a Lincoln County farm during the depression years.
He was a founding member of the original Oak Grove Quartet of Lincoln County. He also worked at Chief GMC in Duncan where he was a salesman. In 1978 Mr. Pounds retired from Chief GMC of Duncan, Oklahoma where he won many awards for top sales.
Mr. Pounds was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Roxie Pounds; one brother, Melvin Pounds, and two sisters, Bessie Strong and Sarah Huth.
He is survived by his wife and sweetheart of 64 years, Opal Earp Pounds of the home; three children, Archie M. Pounds, Jr. and wife, Lynnie, Jenks, Oklahoma; Geraldine Pounds Robideaux and husband, Sammy, Natchitoches, Louisiana and Dr. Wayne E. Pounds and wife, Nana, Tokyo, Japan. Mr. Pounds has five grandchildren, LeGaye and Charles Young, Jenks, Oklahoma; Judith and John Dowd of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Krista Robideaux of Natchitoches, Louisianna; Heath and Michelle Robideaux of Crowley, Louisianna and Shelley Pounds of Tokyo, Japan; eight great grandchildren: Wesley, Adam and Anna Young; Justin and Jason Dowd; Brent and Heidi Robideaux; Jill Wiltz and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday, March 8, 2004 at the Glenpool Nazarene Church with Rev. Duane Lum, officiating.
Burial will take place immediately following the service at Oak Park Cemetery, Chandler, Oklahoma with Rev. Richard Gremillion, officiating.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Daniel C. Schaudt of Schaudt’s Glenpool Funeral Service & Cremation Care.
