JoANN J. POTEET
1936 - 2016


JoAnn J. Poteet, a longtime Agra resident, passed away on January 25, 2016 at the Oklahoma Heart Hospital in Oklahoma City with her family by her side at the age of 79.
JoAnn was born on October 29, 1936 in Drumright, Oklahoma to the late Johnny “Pete” Jack Walker Sr. and Eva Mae Smith.
She grew up in Cushing, graduating from Cushing High School in 1953.
JoAnn married the love of her life, James Poteet on December 2, 1953 at her folks home in Cushing, to this union James, Debbie and Michial were born. They made their home in Agra.
She was very active in her children’s activities while they were growing up.
JoAnn was an Avon sales lady for many years and also sold Prudential Insurance. She retired from O.S.U. in the Housekeeping department.
They lived in Barranquilla, Columbia for a short period of time.
She was a member of the Home Demonstration Club for many years as well as the Election Board. She helped with numerous Tri-County Fair Committees.
JoAnn was a devoted fan of Elvis Presley, traveling to Memphis numerous times to the Candlelight Vigils at Graceland with her family. She was a world traveler, visiting 49 of the 50 states, also Greece, England, Paris and London to name a few.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church where she enjoyed all of the Fellowship events. She lived life to the fullest.
JoAnn is survived by her husband, James of the home, children, James Darrell Poteet Jr. and wife Dawn of Agra; Debbie Cooper and husband, Chris of Cushing; Michial Poteet and wife, Judy of Agra; grandchildren, Anihtra Watkins and husband, Brandon; Jameson Poteet and wife, Natasha; Chrissy Whitten and husband, Michael; Jarrod Cooper and wife, Kristen; Michial Poteet Jr. and wife, Jene’a; Kaylee Berryhill and husband, Brad; great grandchildren, Hunter Watkins, Annelise Watkins, Scarlet Watkins, Chadwick Poteet and Aden Poteet, Lilian {Angel} Whitten, Piper Whitten and Daphne Whitten, Cali Cooper and Caleb Cooper, “Trey” Michial Poteet III and Mallory Poteet.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Johnny “Pete” Jack Walker Sr. and Eva Mae Smith Walker; brothers, Finus Walker and Johnny Jack Walker Jr.; sister-in-law Erlene Walker; grandmother, Mandy Stafford; niece, Shereen Akerman; nephew, Jeffrey Walker; and great granddaughter Lilian Whitten.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday at the First Baptist Church in Agra. Rev. Roger Shaw will officiate.
Interment will follow at Osage Cemetery, Agra, Oklahoma.
Arrangements are entrusted to Palmer Marler Funeral Home, Cushing, Oklahoma.
