BARBARA JEAN PORTER
1931 - 2015


Long time Carney, Oklahoma resident, Barbara Jean Hagar Porter, 83, passed away Monday, July 6, 2015 with her loving family by her side.
She was a charter member of the First Assembly of God Church of Carney.
Barbara was born in Carney to William Guy and Cleo Hagar.
She attended Carney Schools and married Farish Teddy Porter in 1952. Barbara was a homemaker and the mother of eight children.
Together, she and Farish owned Porter’s 66 and Rachel’s Variety store in Carney, as well as several antique stores.
She was a town board member and mayor of Carney from 2010 to 2014 and bought and sold real estate.
Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Farish Porter and oldest son, Jackie Porter; her parents, Guy and Cleo Hagar and sister, Mary Lou Buck.
She is survived by her seven children, Vickie Hendricks and husband Allen of Shawnee, Oklahoma; Arnold Porter of Seattle, Washington; Cindy Owen and husband Dale of Perry, Oklahoma; Garry Porter of Carney; Mark Porter of Carney; David Porter and wife Ilena of Carney and Lory Porter of Guthrie, Oklahoma.
Her surviving siblings are brothers, Johnny Hagar and wife Shirley of Durant, Oklahoma; Billy Hagar of Guthrie, Oklahoma; sisters, Joanne Buck of Tryon, Oklahoma and Dorothy Jones of Oregon.
She has numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Barbara loved to meet people and was a source of wisdom and humor to her family and friends. She has many friends in the Lincoln county area and was loved by all. She will be greatly missed.
“Mother, you were our foundation and our best friend. Your love and guidance have been our greatest source of strength and comfort. We will cherish our memories of you until we meet again. We love you, we miss you and we’re honored to be your children.”
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, July 10, 2015 at First Assembly of God Church of Carney.
Interment will follow at Carney Cemetery.
Services are under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home, Guthrie.
