JEANNINE LUCIENNE PHIPPS
1924 - 2015
Jeannine Lucienne Tháry Phipps was born October 15, 1924 in Gray, France to Maurice and Leá Tháry.She passed away March 22, 2015 in Stroud at the age of 90.Jeannine met and married Curtis Phipps in France while he was serving in World War II. The Red Cross brought Jeannine and other war brides to the United States in 1946 and her husband, Curtis, returned a few months later. They began their life together in Davenport where Jeannine helped Curtis haul milk. She also worked for Harding Drug in Stroud and later with the Davenport Schools as a custodian until her retirement at age 85.She enjoyed working with her flowers and knitting scarves which she gave away to many people in the community.Jeannine is preceded in death by husband, Curtis; daughter, Vickie McKenzie; granddaughter, Philecia Carpenter; siblings abroad, and grandson David Childress.Survivors include her children, Elizabeth Childress of Shawnee; Tom Phipps and wife Beulah of Chandler; Rita and husband Jim Wade of Chandler; Sonja and husband David Ward of Okemah; Curtis Phipps and wife Jonita of Chandler; Judy and husband Ron Brown of Webster, Texas; sixteen grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces; nephews; cousins; and friends.A visitation will be held Thursday March 26, from 10:00 a.m. until her funeral service at 2:00 in the Davenport First Baptist Church with interment following in the Davenport Cemetery.Arrangements are under the direction of Lehman Funeral Home of Wellston.
