1949 - 2014
Carl Wayne Phillips was born October 28, 1949 in Portales, New Mexico to Floyd Wayne Phillips and Bonnie Lee Shaffer Phillips.He passed away March 29, 2014 in Oklahoma City at the age of 64.Carl worked in the oilfield as a roughneck until an automobile accident in 1969 which left him paralyzed from the neck down. From that point on he lived with his mother and later his brother who helped care for him.With the help of Cecil Weaver, Carl made a profession of faith in the 80's and lived for Christ as much as his quadriplegic condition would allow.Carl was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Bonnie, an infant daughter and his grandparents,Verland and Josie Shaffer.Survivors include his son, James Smith of Perkins, brother, Donald Ketcher of Luther, uncles, Charles Shaffer of Luther, Jesse Shaffer of Jones, George Shaffer of Luther and John Shaffer of Mustang; aunts, Sarah Riley of Westville and Alice Mingle of Phoenix; as well as other relatives and friends.A graveside funeral will be held at 5:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at the Carney Cemetery in Carney.Arrangements are under the direction of Lehman Funeral Home of Wellston.
