EVELYN GRACE PARK
1913 - 2000
Former Chandler resident Evelyn Grace Potter Park of Mountain Home, Arkansas died Friday. She was 86.
She was born July 15, 1913 at Kickapoo Valley near Chandler to Henry Ray and Grace C. Gerady Potter.
She grew up in Sparks and Chandler, and graduated from Arkansas City Junior College in 1932.
She earned a bachelor's of science in business from Oklahoma State University in 1934.
She married Warren R. Park on November 16, 1934 at her parent's home in Chandler.
He preceded her in death May 5, 1993.
She was a partner with her husband and bookkeeper for their business, Park Oil Co. The couple purchased the business in 1953 and sold it in 1975 when they retired.
She was past president of P.E.O., Oklahoma chapter AN, a charter member and past regent of Indian Spring chapter of DAR, an organizing member of the Dr. Comfort Starr chapter at Tulsa of Colonial Dames of the 17th century.
She was also past president of the WSCS of the Methodist Church and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
She published many books and she, along with other family members, compiled the tombstone inscriptions for all cemeteries in Lincoln County as a permanent record for the DAR archives of early settlers who died before cemetery and death records were kept.
She also organized a multivolume indexed compilation of Lincoln County obituaries for 1970 through 1995.
Surviving are a daughter, Margaret K. Park of Athens, Georgia; a daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn G. and George C. Wheat of Mountain Home, Arkansas; a son and daughter-in-law, W. Roger and Alice Park of Dallas, Texas; two grandchildren, Justin R. Park of Sacramento, California; and Sarah E. Park of Fresno, California.
Memorials may be made to the Lincoln County Historical Society and Museum, the First United Methodist Church of Chandler or the American Diabetes Association.
Services will be 2:00 p.m. today at Parks Brothers Funeral Home Chapel in Chandler with the Rev. Hugh Willoby officiating.
Burial will follow in Oak Park Cemetery in Chandler under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home of Chandler and Kirby-Boaz Funeral Directors.
