Marjorie Jean {Ball} Molloy {19 May, 1931 - 01 May, 2009}.

Marjorie died early in the morning on the 1 of May in the arms of her son and grandson at Gulfport Memorial Hospital in Gulfport, Mississippi. Also present to comfort Marjorie at her time of her passing from our arms into the presence of God were her daughter in law to be, Angela Marcela Sanchez Aguirre of El Espinal, Tolima, Colombia and her niece Clairece Ludtke of Agra, Oklahoma.

She was a member of the Grace Memorial Baptist Church, having accepted Jesus as her Savior early in her life.

Marjorie was born south of Ripley, Oklahoma in Payne County in a farmhouse on the Old Payne Place. Her birth occurred two years into the great depression and as the long drought known as the dust bowl was beginning. The room Marjorie was born in still stands in the farmhouse that has since been modified.

Marjorie was the seventh child of Lucius Elkanah Ball {1883-1957} and Mary Elizabeth {Russell} Ball {1888-1981}.

Her brothers were Thomas Claire Ball {1912-1993}, Albert Henry Ball {1917-2002}, Elmer James Ball {1921-2002} and Oscar Murry Ball of Dequeen, Arkansas. Marjorie’s sisters are Hilda Ullah {Ball} Stafford {1909-1998} and Emma Lucille {Ball} Stewart of Del City, Oklahoma.

Marjorie was the wife of Robert L. Molloy who was born approximately two miles southwest of Marjorie on the old Molloy place in a farmhouse which was later sold and moved to a location on the Cimarron River. Marjorie and Robert were united in marriage on the 19 of July, 1950 and would be husband and wife until Robert’s death in August 2006. Of this union was born Debra Ann {Molloy} Davis and Kris L. Molloy.

She was the proud and loving grandmother of Tray Robert Fowler, who is the son of Debra Ann Davis. She was very pleased to be the great-grandmother of Tyler Robert Fowler, who is the son of Tray and Laura Fowler of Farmers Branch, Texas.

Marjorie was a graduate of Cushing High School, class of 1950 located in Cushing, Oklahoma.

Her work ethic was developed early in life as she completed her chores living on a farm. Marjorie progressed to working at Bunny’s café in Cushing, Oklahoma during her high school years with friends Kathy Tipton {Ball} and Lita Daniels whose friendship continued throughout her life. After graduating high school she worked as a telephone operator in Cushing, Oklahoma prior to the time of automated telephone calls. She also worked at the Snackette for the Kenzie Family in Cushing as well as other restaurants in Cushing and in Gulfport, Mississippi.

Marjorie worked in the school cafeteria in Cushing, Oklahoma while her husband was deployed to Vietnam. She was the loving and supportive wife of Robert throughout his time serving in the military and his multiple deployments overseas. They lived in Beeville, Texas while stationed at Chase Naval Air Station after Robert’s return from Vietnam.

Marjorie and Robert next moved to Gulfport, Mississippi where Robert was stationed at the USN Seabee center, where he would ultimately retire in 1980. They made their retirement home in Gulfport and opened their home to many relatives and friends over the years. Marjorie was known for her love and compassion for her family and friends. She was also known for her ability in the kitchen to make everyone very happy. To sit at her table and experience her cooking was to know love and happiness.

She became a wedding cake maker by accident and discovered that she was very gifted. Marjorie travelled great distances over the years to make extravagant wedding, anniversary, birthday and retirement cakes for family and friends. She found great comfort in making others happy and providing wonderful and lasting memories in her culinary creations.

Marjorie and her dear friend Marcelle Stringer helped to create the Library for Grace Memorial Baptist church in Gulfport, Mississippi beginning in 1991. The Library was created in memory of Mrs. Miriom Blacklock who was a Sunday school teacher and a leader within the church. This was a ministry that was dear to Marjorie’s heart and she did everything in her power to make it a peaceful and beautiful place to study. Marjorie and Marcelle received the support of many church members over the years who volunteered and provided the labor and materials necessary to complete the Library. She was supported throughout this endeavor by her husband, Robert.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 56 years, Robert; parents Lucius and Lizzie Ball; brothers Thomas, Albert and Elmer Ball; sister Ullah Stafford; niece Janice Sue Roberts; and nephews Truman Evans and Dewayne Ball.

Marjorie is survived by her daughter, Debra Ann Davis of Mountain View, Arkansas and her son, Kris Molloy of Gulfport, Mississippi.

She is also survived by her grandson, Tray Robert Fowler of Lewisville, Texas; and her great-grandson Tyler Robert Fowler; her brother Oscar Ball of Dequeen, Arkansas; and sister Emma Stewart of Del City, Oklahoma; and her extended family, friends and her Boston Terrier, Precious.

The family wishes to give thanks to the very caring and compassionate physicians, nurses and therapists who provided Mother with professional care: Dr. George and Gilbert of Mobile, Alabama; Dr. Tilley of Gulfport, Mississippi; and Dr. Do, Edaghapunti, Pakron, Baker, O’Gorman, Lanier, Creighton of Gulfport Memorial Hospital. Nurses: Bill, Gordon, Josh, Gerald, Colin, Sandy, Jacmylia and Holly. Therapist Frank Neal and Katrina. There were others who provided compassionate and sincere care for Marjorie whose names I cannot recall, but whose actions and efforts were greatly appreciated. For those in the medical community who were less than compassionate and professional, we will pray for you, and especially for the patients and families that will have to suffer needlessly because of your thoughtless actions, conduct and behavior.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in the memory of Marjorie J. Molloy be considered to either the Grace Memorial Baptist Church Library Fund {2301 23rd Ave, Gulfport, MS. 39501} or to the Cancer research organization preferred by the contributor. There are many organizations dedicated to finding better treatments or a cure for Cancer and Leukemia, we realize that most families have been affected by these diseases and may have a preference for donations.

A visitation will begin at 4:00 p.m. on Friday at the Palmer Marler Funeral Home in Cushing, Oklahoma until 8:00 p.m.

Funeral services will begin at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Cushing, conducted by Pastor Stephen Stake assisted by Vicki and Josh Stake. After the service we will proceed to the Oakdale Cemetery in Lincoln County for a brief graveside service and burial.
