ERNEST BOYD MENDENHALL
1926 - 2012
Ernest Boyd Mendenhall, our precious husband, father, brother and friend, slipped away from our hands and in the embrace of God on February 3, 2012, at the age of 85 years.
He was born in Chandler on October 28, 1926.
He went to school and graduated in Chandler, he was drafted into the army at the age of eighteen and served two years. After leaving the military, he returned to Chandler and worked at the post office.
It was during this time that his heart caught the eyes of a beautiful young lady named Gloria June Troyer. On October 10, 1948, Ernest and Gloria became man and wife.
In 1952, Ernest left the post office and began a career with Texaco. They raised their family in Chandler, where he also volunteered as a firefighter for fifteen years. He retired from Texaco after thirty three years.
He is preceded in death by his father and mother, Earl and Laura Mendenhall; one brother, Cecil Mendenhall and one sister, Leota Judd.
He is survived by the love of his life, whom he was married to for sixty three years, Gloria, of the home; two sons, Jerry and Sharon Mendenhall of Johnson, Kansas; and Chris and Pat Mendenhall of Perryton, Texas; two sisters, Evolee Franklin of Terlingua, Texas; and Thelda Beasler of Chandler, Oklahoma; four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; and a host of friends and loved ones.
Funeral services were held on Monday, February 6, 2012, at the First Assembly of God Church under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service.
Burial was in New Zion Cemetery.
