JOHN WILBER MELSON
1924 - 1998


Former Chandler resident John Wilber Melson, 74, died Tuesday in Jenks.
He was born in Chandler on December 18, 1924, to Floyd D. and Sara B. Lee Melson.
He married Avis L. Holman in Chandler in 1952.
He moved to the Tulsa area in 1977 and was a line worker, a cable worker, and one of the first to work in satellite communication for AT&T.
He was a member of the St. Pious Catholic Church, Tulsa.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and one sister.
Survivors include his wife, Avis of Tulsa; two stepdaughters, Joann Shafer and Mary Sue Harris, both of Tulsa; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; four brothers, R. E. Melson of Chandler; Mark L. Melson of Chandler; Lloyd Melson of Plano, Texas and Francis Leon Melson of Watseka, Illinois; one sister, Sister Margaret of Temecula, California; and many other relatives and many friends.
A prayer vigil will be 7:00 p.m. Friday at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, Chandler. Services will be at the same location at 10:00 a.m. Saturday.
Burial will be in Oak Park Cemetery under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home, Chandler.
