1919 - 2013
Bertha Lee Delancy Kennedy, age 93, of Woodway, Texas formerly of the Cushing/Drumright area.Bertha was born on July 8, 1919 in Houston, Texas to the late Claud Andrew and Rebecca Elizabeth Tipsword Delancy.She grew up in Mannford and attended school in Mannford.Bertha married the love of her life, Floyd “Pop Eye” Kennedy. To this union Faye, Floyd “Bud”, and Jack were born. They lived around the Mannford/Drumright/Olive area most of their married life.She worked at the Olive school as a cook and at the Drumright Nursing Home as a cook and then later was a Cottage Supervisor for Hissom Memorial.Bertha was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Drumright for seventy years, where she helped with Bible school. She liked to sing nursery rhymes to her children while they were growing up.They lived in Drumright from 1942 until 1952 when they moved to the farm in Olive where she lived until 1990.She was known affectionately as Grandma “Bert” and Aunt “Bert”. She loved having the family to the farm where they could enjoy the experiences of farm life. Bertha loved quilting, sewing and hooking rugs. They raised a garden and the produce was either canned or put in the freezer for family meals. Bertha was a fantastic cook, no one left hungry.She enjoyed spending time with her nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren.Bertha is survived by her daughter, Faye Fugate and husband Robert of Kansas City, Missouri; Jack Kennedy and wife Cassie of Woodway, Texas; daughter-in-law Clara Kennedy of Mannford; eight grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son Floyd Kennedy Jr., brother George, sisters Elnora and Mary.Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, April 5, 2013 at the Chapel of Palmer Marler Funeral Home, Cushing.Interment will follow at Parkland Cemetery, Parkland, Oklahoma.Arrangements are entrusted to Palmer Marler Funeral Home, Cushing, Oklahoma.
