CYE KAHANEK
1925 - 2011


Cye Kahanek was born July 19, 1925, in Prague and departed this life Sunday, December 4, 2011, in Prague at the age of 86.
Cye, the son of Albert Ernest and Emily Straka Kahanek, was a life-long resident of Prague, having been born the year his parents moved to Prague to begin their grocery business. Cye began working in the family business, Kahanek Market, at a young age.
He graduated from Prague High School with the class of 1943. Following his graduation, he joined the United States Navy and proudly served his country for three years during World War II.
He married Mary Pat Teape on August 21, 1947, in Prague.
Cye received a BBA in Marketing from the University of Oklahoma in 1951. He returned to the family business in Prague, which became Kahanek Food and Drug. Cye and his partner and brother-in-law sold the business in 1978.
He served as the mayor of Prague, was an active member of the Prague United Methodist Church, the American Legion and the Prague Golf Club.
Cye was a founding member of Prague Builders and was on the Board of Directors at the time of his death. He was also the recipient of the Pride in Prague Lifetime Achievement award.
Cye was preceded in death by his parents and son, Mike.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Mary Pat Kahanek of the home; and his sister and brother-in-law, Charlene and James Jezek of Prague.
Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, December 8, at Parks Brothers Funeral Chapel in Prague with Rev. Susan Payne and Trey Teape officiating.
Interment will follow at the Prague Cemetery in Prague.
Services are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service in Prague.
