WENDELL ALBERT JANES
1924 - 2012


Wendell Albert Janes of Wellston passed away March 1, 2012 at the age of 71, in Oklahoma City, OK. He was born July 26, 1940 in Muleshoe, Texas to James Albert and Eula Mae Janes.
He was the second born of four children.
He attended and graduated from Mountain View High School in Mountain View, Oklahoma and then attended Southwestern State College for one year.
He met Helen Curtis in 1961 while living in Edmond and they were married on September 26, 1964 in Chandler, Oklahoma. They resided in Sherman, Texas until 1965 when they relocated to Midwest City where they lived until they moved to Wellston in 1968 where they would live out the rest of their lives. They had three children together, Trisha Wayland and husband Mark of Chandler Oklahoma; Michael Albert Janes and wife Julie of Wellston, Oklahoma and Brady Allen Janes and wife Lisa, of Cypress Texas.
Wendell served in the U. S. Air Force from 1963 to 1965. After being discharged from the Air Force, Wendell went to work for as a Volkswagen mechanic in Del City for many years before opening his own garage in Chandler. He eventually retired from that when his disability didn't allow him to work any more.
Wendell was an active member of the Wellston Church of Christ for over forty years where he served as a Deacon, a Trustee, and a Sunday school teacher for many of those years. He was a member of the American Legion and a board member for the Central Rural Electric Foundation for many years. Wendell, along with Helen, were instrumental in starting the Wellston Library and the Acts of Love Food Pantry to serve the local community. He enjoyed traveling across the country with his family and spending as much time as possible with his children and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Glenna.
He is survived by his wife Helen, of the home; his three children and spouses, nine grandchildren: Wyatt, Audrie, and Rachel Wayland, of Chandler, Oklahoma; Jackson, Emma and Weston Janes of Wellston, Oklahoma; and Madison, Mason and Mackenzie Janes of Cypress, Texas; brothers Gerald Janes and wife Sylvia of Wellston and Dwayne Janes and wife Kathy of Edmond, Oklahoma; his mother in law, Ruth Curtis of Chandler, Oklahoma; step-mother, Pauline Janes of Edmond, Oklahoma; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
He will be greatly missed by all.
A funeral service for Wendell was held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, March 5, 2012 at the Lehman Funeral Home Chapel with interment following in the Wellston Cemetery.
