RICHARD THOMAS HERRING
1912 - 2009
Richard Thomas Herring, age 97, passed away on Monday, August 10, 2009 at his home near Agra, Oklahoma.The son of the late Joseph Daniel and Pearl Mayes Herring, Richard was born on May 15, 1912 in Gorman, Texas.He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving his country during World War II.On February 10, 1949 he was united in marriage to Beulah Lee in Las Vegas, New Mexico.They continued living in New Mexico where Richard owned a lumber yard. In 2000, the Herrings moved to Agra where Richard had lived with his son and family until his death.Richard enjoyed gardening, especially tending to his fruit trees and his watermelons.Survivors include two sons, James R. Herring and his wife Vinnis of Agra; and James M. Herring and his wife Debbie of Norman; two brothers, Paul Herring and his wife Polly of Albuquerque, New Mexico; and John Herring and his wife Dorothy of Roswell, New Mexico; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his wife Beulah; one son, Chester Robert Herring; one granddaughter, Suzanna Herring; three brothers; and two sisters.Funeral services have been entrusted to the Palmer Marler Funeral Home in Cushing and will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, August 13, 2009 in the First Baptist Church in Agra, Oklahoma with Pastor Roger Shaw officiating.Burial will follow in the Osage Cemetery, Agra, Oklahoma.
