WALTER M. HELM
1921 - 1998
Former Harrah Citizen of the Year Walter M. Helm died Wednesday at his home. He was 77.Walter was born January 11, 1921, in Wellston, growing up in the Wellston area.He married Ozeta Hall on December 6, 1946, and had lived in Harrah since 1946.He worked in jet engine quality control at Tinker Air Force Base. He was a member of the Harrah Lions Club, VFW, Methodist Church and served on the Harrah Board of Education.Survivors include his daughter, Cathy, Harrah; brother, Delbert Helm, Oklahoma City; sisters, Mildred Kelton, Somerset, California; Lawanda McCurdy, Davis; daughter-in-law, Marsha Helm, Harrah; and three grandchildren, Matthew Wayne Helm, Casey Suzanne Helm and Denison Edward Helm.He was preceded in death by his son, Wayne Helm.Services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday at the Harrah United Methodist Church.Burial will be in the Wellston Cemetery directed by Asa Smith Funeral Service.Published July 31, 1998.
