FLORENCE LORENE HARMON
1919 - 2013
Florence Lorene “Burden” Harmon of Avery, Oklahoma, left this life on November 14, 2013, surrounded by her family.Florence was born December 4, 1919, to Nellie Leona “Ricks” Burden and Andrew William “Butch” Burden.She was married on June 3, 1939, to Vernon Elbert Harmon, having four children, Bobby Dale, Shirley Ann, Elberta Kay, and Gary Don Harmon.Florence loved to have her family around her, gathering for holiday meals, even always making her pumpkin pies and strawberry fluff, as late as last year, for Thanksgiving and Christmas.She loved going to church and thrift store shopping, as long as she was physically able. She always worked to make a loving home and to provide the necessities for her family. She made almost all the girls clothes from feed sacks as they were growing up, and shirts for Bobby; Gary coming along much later in life.When Vernon got injured on a construction job, she went to work to provide a living for her family. When Vernon became incapacitated with Alzheimer’s disease, she provided constant care for him. She always wanted only the best for her entire family, always praying for them and hoping everything would turn out alright.She is survived by her daughters, Shirley Davis and her husband Joe of Avery; and Kay Rogers and her husband Jimmy of Jennings; one son Gary Harmon of Avery; one daughter-in-law Judith Carolyn Harmon of Avery; a brother-in-law, Paul Bell of Skiatook; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and other family members and friends.She was preceded in death by her parents, Butch and Nellie Burden; her husband Vernon Harmon; her brother Elvin Andrew Burden and his wife Georgia Lou; her sister Naomi Ruth Bell and her son Bobby Harmon.Funeral services will be Monday, November 18, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Gospel Assembly Church, 8515 N. Whirlpool Drive, Sperry, Oklahoma. This is at the intersection of North Highway 75 and 86th Street North, from Tulsa.Interment will be held Monday, November 18, 2013, at 3:00 p.m. in the Avery Cemetery.
