BURL OREN HAMM
1942 - 2008


Burl Oren Hamm, former Cushing resident now of Lexington, passed away on Wednesday, February 6, 2008 at his residence at the age of 66 years.
The son of the late Joel Oren Hamm and Wanda Vonala Pruitt Hamm, Burl was born on January 22, 1942 in Lexington, Oklahoma.
He was reared and educated in Lexington and Cushing, attending Oak Grove School, Soonerville School, Cushing Schools and Adult Ed. {night school} in Springfield, Missouri equivalent to two years college.
He was united in marriage to Shirley Marie Free on September 27, 1958 in Duncan, Oklahoma. To this union eleven children, Angela, Regina, Cynthia, Burl, Theresa, Candis, Brian, Michael, David, Robert and Christopher, were born.
Burl served in the United States Air Force, entering in March of 1960, at the Air Force Base in Riverside, California, receiving his honorable discharge in 1964.
He was baptized into the General Assembly of the Church of the Firstborn in July of 1956.
Survivors include his wife of over 49 years, Shirley of the home; seven children, Angela Arnold and her husband Gary of Lexington; Regina Houston of Tulsa; Cynthia Denise and Burl Hamm, Jr. of Ardmore; Theresa Jones of Enid; Candis Thompson of Enid; and Brian Jason and his wife Amber of Stillwater; fourteen grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three sisters, Vonola Seasock, Gladys Curnutt and Gaylene Panada; four brothers, Leonard Hamm, Ralph Hamm, Wayne Hamm and Daniel Hamm; several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, Burl was preceded in death by four sons, Michael Oren Hamm, David Arnold Hamm, Robert Glenn Hamm and Christopher Aaron Hamm; two sisters, Ruby Hamm Corter and Ethel Hamm Stoddard and two brothers, Dale Hamm and Joel Hamm, Jr.
Services will be held on Saturday, February 9, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. in the Davis Memorial Chapel with Brother Allen Idlett officiating.
Burial will follow in the Flynn Cemetery.
Serving as casketbearers will be, Gary Arnold, Jason Hamm, Burl Hamm, Jr., Christopher Houston, Aaron Houston and Doug Nakvinda.
Serving as honorary casketbearers will be Travis Goodreau and Robert Arnold.
