THOMAS HAROLD ENGEL
1931 - 1998


Longtime Meeker businessman Thomas Harold Engel died Sunday at his home. He was 67.
Thomas Harold Engel was born March 18, 1931 in Meeker to Oscar J. and Anna Lee Engel.
He grew up on the family farm on Quapaw Creek east and north of Meeker, attended Crescent School and graduated from Meeker High School, where he played baseball and basketball, in 1949.
He served in the U. S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Toledo off the Korean coast during the Korean War.
He married Treva Marie Northcutt on August 8, 1958, in Gainesville, Texas.
Engel worked for Oklahoma Natural Gas Company, did aircraft work in California, did crude oil production work for several companies in Oklahoma and Texas, was a truck driver for J. B. Hunt, owned rental property and was a cafe owner and operator.
He also served as Meeker vice mayor, chairman of Meeker Heritage Days, president of Meeker Senior Citizens and song leader of the Heart to Heart Singers.
He was chairman of the parish council, lector, eucharist minister and chairman of the evangelistic committee at St. Michael's Church and secretary of the Knights of Columbus Council 9583.
Surviving are his wife, Treva Marie Engel, of the home; son, Leon Longacre, Sapulpa; daughters, Anita Chapman, Wewoka; Sharon Hook, Tacoma, Washington; ten grandchildren, including Mark Daniels of Tulsa; three brothers, Oscar J. Engel, Pampa, Texas; Martin F. Engel, Lawndale, California; Ambrose W. Engel, Meeker; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Neil and Doretha Northcutt, Davis; mother-in-law, Marie Northcutt, Meeker; sister-in-law, Mercedes Engel, Fulton, Kentucky; and many other relatives and friends.
Preceding him in death were his parents; three brothers, Edward Lee Engel, William Doyle Engel, James Elden Engel, and nephew, Robert A. Engel.
Bible vigil will be 7:00 p.m. today at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Meeker.
Mass of Christian burial will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at the church with the Rev. Adrian Vorderlandwehr, O.S.B., officiating.
Burial will at New Hope Cemetery, Meeker, under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.
Viewing will be at Roesch-Walker Chapel until 5:00 p.m. today and before vigil service. The casket will not be opened for services Wednesday.
