LeROY DeWITT
1922 - 2005
Tecumseh resident LeRoy DeWitt, 83, died Thursday, August 11, in Shawnee.
He was born June 23, 1922, in Noble to Charley I. and Grace Riordan DeWitt.
Born and raised in Noble, he had lived in St. Louis, Missouri, Detroit, Michigan, and Forsythe, Missouri before returning to Oklahoma City in 1992. He had lived in Tecumseh since 2003.
He served in the U.S. Navy for three years during World War II.
In May 1998 he married Bernice Farr.
He worked as a welder, mechanic and auto body repairman for many years before entering construction and working as a heavy equipment operator until his retirement in 1972.
He was a member of the D.A.V. and VFW Post 9265 and enjoyed working on lawn mowers and dancing.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Ronnie DeWitt and Lee Roy DeWitt; one grandson and numerous brothers and sisters.
Survivors include his wife, Bernice DeWitt of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Roy Lee and Suk Cha DeWitt of Marietta, Georgia; daughter and son-in-law, Marlene and Casey McBroom of Cedar Hill, Missouri.; step-daughter, Rhonda Mitchell of Ardmore; sister and brother-in-law, Juanita and Larry Robertson of Purcell; former spouse, Lorene Huff of Cuba, Missouri; six grandchildren; three step-grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Service will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Cooper Funeral Chapel with John Walrath officiating.
Burial will be at Parkland Cemetery {northeast of Chandler} under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home, Tecumseh.
