LEON McKINLEY CHRISP
1940 - 2010


Leon McKinley Chrisp, a Cushing area resident, passed away on Tuesday, April 6, 2010, at his home at the age of 69 years.
The son of the late Leonard M. Chrisp and Nina Elsie Tipton Chrisp, Leon was born on June 3, 1940 in Kendrick.
His family moved from a farm in Kendrick to Cushing in 1946. Leon was reared and educated in Cushing, graduating in 1958.
At the age of 17, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He received a honorable discharge from the U.S. Navy in 1961.
Leon moved to California and worked in as a carpenter in the construction field. He lived in California for a number of years before returning to Cushing.
He was a 32nd degree Mason.
He enjoyed the mountains and loved fishing and camping, as well as visiting with friends in Las Vegas and, more recently, watching the Weather Channel, paying particular attention to the barometric pressure.
Leon adored his family and was proud of his great-grandchildren, Hayleigh Grace and Braxton.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Tony and Melissa Chrisp of Cushing; one daughter and son-in-law Shari Tuttle and Charlie Munn of Chandler; a brother and sister-in-law, James and Marcie Chrisp of Cushing; grandchildren, Clayton Chrisp and Sarah; and Adam Tuttle and Courtney Clark; and two great-grandchildren, Hayleigh Grace Tuttle and Braxton Chrisp; as well as a number of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Leon also leaves behind his very special friends, Ramona Wingette, Gary and Deloris A., Dorothy Helvy, Ray Brace, Nancy Brace, Steve Smith, Trudi Cooper, Chris Mc., Mitzi McWilliams, Tonya Gazaway, Cynthia, Mike S. and Walter Mc. and all the friends of Bill W.
In addition to his parents, Leon was preceded in death by a brother, Clifford Chrisp and "Unc" Robert L. Tipton.
He loved helping others and was most proud of his thirty years of sobriety.
His door was always open and his phone was always answered “Right on Time”.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, April 9, 2010, in the Palmer Marler Funeral Home Chapel, Cushing, Oklahoma with Terry Cline officiating.
Burial will follow in the Kendrick Cemetery, Kendrick, Oklahoma.
Arrangements are entrusted to Palmer Marler Funeral Home, Cushing.
