ORAN FRANK CARTER
1929 - 2011


Oran Frank Carter was born August 5, 1929, near Sparks, Oklahoma.
He attended elementary school at Pleasant Grove, and graduated from Prague High School in 1947. Shortly thereafter, he was employed by Southwestern Bell Telephone Company where he worked for thirty eight years except for two years military leave where he served with the 7th Army Combat Engineers in Germany.
He and his family moved to Holdenville in 1959.
He was a member of the Barnard Memorial United Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge, Rotary International and Telephone Pioneers of America; he was also an Assistant Scoutmaster, an Explorer Advisor, served thirteen years on the Holdenville Board of Education and was a Director of the Holdenville Housing Authority.
He was preceded in death by an infant son, Jeffery, his parents, Frank and Myrtle Carter, and a brother, Warren Carter.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Edna; a son, Dr. Mark Carter and his wife Jennifer of Richardson, Texas; a daughter, Dr. Janet Tracy of San Antonio, Texas; a grandson, Andrew Carter of Richardson, Texas; a brother Dan Carter and wife Almeda of Pampa, Texas; sister-in-law Marie Carter of Irving, Texas; nieces, nephews, many friends and a special coffee-time friend Bill Muse.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to United Methodist Church Volunteers in Mission, Habitat for Humanity, Boy Scouts of America, Girl Scouts of America, or another charity of your choice.
Graveside service will be Wednesday, September 21, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at Kellerby Cemetery, Prague, Oklahoma.
Family will have visitation on Tuesday, September 20, 2011 from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at the Hudson-Phillips Chapel in Holdenville.
