Funeral services for Mrs. Grace C. Byars, 89, a Stroud pioneer, were Thursday, July 6, in the First Christian Church at Stroud.Rev. Bryant Badger, pastor of the church officiated.Interment was at Stroud Cemetery, with Stroud Curry Funeral Home directing arrangements.Mrs. Byars died Tuesday, July 4, in a Tulsa nursing home.She was born November 18, 1882, near Gravette in Benton County, Arkansas and came from Arkansas in 1898 in a covered wagon, settling in the Stroud area.She was married to Floyd Byars on February 26, 1904, at Stroud. Her husband preceded her in death September 8, 1966, and a son, Charles E. Byars, died in 1968.Mrs. Byars was a member of the First Christian Church, Stroud.Survivors include three sons, Roy W. Byars of Bartlesville, Leonard L. of Tulsa and Gerald A. of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren.Published July 13, 1972.
