O. L. BURRAHM
1920 - 2010
O. L. "Hoot" Burrahm went to be with the Lord on Monday, June 14, 2010 after a long courageous battle with Parkinson's disease.
He was born July 18, 1920, in Meeker to Clinton and Loma Flowers Burrahm.
He had a brother, Tolbert and two sisters, Argie and Maxine. Loma passed away when Hoot was five. Clinton later married Allie Ellithorp. From that marriage the following children were born: Walter, JoAnn, Richard, George Clinton and Ruth Mary.
He attended grade school in Earlsboro, Payson, Meeker and Weatherford. In seventh grade, he moved back to Meeker and lived with his grandparents, William and Della Flowers, and his uncle and aunt, Willie and Murle Flowers.
He was a gifted athlete and loved all sports. In high school he lettered in football, basketball, baseball and track.
He graduated from Meeker High School in 1939. and was an avid fan of the Meeker Bulldogs and the Oklahoma Sooners.
On July 10, 1940, he married Juanita Jones.
Hoot and Juanita started their married life in Shawnee and were both employed at Harp's Green Valley Farms. In 1942, they moved back to Meeker where they bought a home across the street from the Meeker Grade School. He bought a truck and operated a milk route.
In 1944, the family moved to a farm two miles west of Meeker. In 1947, he went to work for OG&E, but in 1948, he was hired by ONG. Hoot's previous softball experience was a plus for his job. He played shortstop and became player/manager for the ONG Gassers which won first place in the commercial league in Shawnee. Hoot was also a member of the ONG Bowling team.
Hoot and Juanita were blessed with two daughters: Quinnita Jane, born in Prague and Kathryn Lynn born in Shawnee.
He was a member of the Meeker School Board where he served as President.
He was also a member of the Meeker Lions Club, Meeker Roundup Club, and the Elks Golf & Country Club in Shawnee. As a member of the Meeker Round-up Club, he rode in parades and participated in barrel racing and calf roping events.
He was a long time member of Morning Star Baptist Church in Meeker where he served as deacon. He also served as a deacon at Liberty Baptist Church after the family moved to Shawnee.
He retired from ONG in 1982 after 35 years of service.
On October 20, 1983, he lost his beloved wife, Juanita. In 1984, he married Irene Parker. Hoot and Irene lived in Shawnee.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Loma Burrahm; father, Clinton Burrahm; step-mother, Allie Burrahm; wife, Juanita Jones Burrahm; brother, Tolbert Burrahm; sister, Argie Lewis; sister, Maxine Ramsdale; step-sister, Ruth Mary, step-brother, George Clinton; step-brother, Walter Burrahm; and step-great grandson, David {Trey} Brown.
Hoot is survived by his wife, Irene Burrahm of Shawnee; daughter and son-in-law, Jane and Gene Lauderdale of Shawnee; daughter and son-in-law, Kathryn and Dr. James Tidmore of Norman; granddaughter and husband, Lori and Robert Pecore of Willis, Texas; grandson, Kyle Tidmore of Norman; two great granddaughters, Candace Chisholm and Madison Plunkett of Willis, Texas; sister-in-law, Velta Lee Jones of Oklahoma City; step-brother Richard Burrahm; step-sister, JoAnn Hollis of Hydro; step-daughter and husband Barbara and Jim Carner of Muldrow; step-daughter, Angeline Gray of Marysville, California; step-son and wife, Richard and Glenda Parker of Muldrow; 12 step-grandchildren; 10 step great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
Services will be 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 17, 2010 at Liberty Baptist Church with Bill Matthews and Donnie Knight officiating.
Burial will be at New Hope Cemetery, Meeker.
Family will be at Walker Funeral Home Wednesday 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. to receive friends.
