VELMA VERA BROWN
1925 - 2013




Velma Vera Wolff Brown, 87, passed away at 9:58 a.m., January 7, 2013, at the Linwood Village Nursing Home, Cushing, Oklahoma.
She was one of sixteen children born to Julius and Martha Fandrey Wolff on September 25, 1925, in Avery, Oklahoma, where she was raised.
She was baptized on October 26, 1925, and confirmed at the Lutheran Church in Avery, Oklahoma.
On August 5, 1944, she married Melvin Donald Brown at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Cushing, Oklahoma, where she worshipped until her death.
Velma loved her grandchildren and enjoyed doing things for others; she also enjoyed gardening and cooking special desserts for the family. In addition to raising a large family, she worked outside the home for Fowler's IGA, Escott's Grocery, Wilcoxin's Grocery, and Black Gold Cafe.
Velma was preceded in death by her parents; by daughter, Donna Sue Smith; by daughter-in-law, Anita Brown; by eight sisters: Hildegard Dahlke, Elizabeth Heisler, Amanda Baedke, Erna Fisk, Hertha Wyatt, Martha Bradley, Ida Baedke, and her twin and best friend, Selma Wolff; and by five brothers: Clemen, Alfred, Julius "Jack", Herman, and Darvin "Bud" Wolff.
Velma is survived by her husband of 68 years, Donald Brown; three sons: Thomas L. Brown of Cushing, Oklahoma; Melvin {Cassie} Brown of Stroud, Oklahoma; and Ricky Brown of Cushing, Oklahoma; three daughters: Phyllis {Thomas H.} Brown of Moore, Oklahoma; Judith {Ronald} Bush of Cushing, Oklahoma; and Sherry {Robert} Jenkins of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; son-in-law: Gene Smith, of Lubbock, Texas; twelve grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
She is also survived by two sisters, Norma {Jacob} of Kansas City, Kansas; and Darlene {Harold} Baedke of Council Bluff, Iowa; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 12, 2013, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Cushing, Oklahoma, with Reverend Mark Duer officiating.
Burial will follow in the Lutheran Cemetery, South on Kings Highway.
Memorial contributions may be made to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in her memory.
