FREEDA INEZ BASDEN
1922 - 2007


Freeda I. Gulley Basden, an award winning poet and volunteer for the Cushing Regional Hospital Auxiliary, passed away on Monday, October 22, 2007 in the Cushing Regional Hospital at the age of 84 years.
The daughter of the late Charles Gulley and Nellie Busby Gulley, Freeda was born on November 15, 1922 in Whitefield, Oklahoma.
She was united in marriage to Fred Basden on December 26, 1941 in West Liberty, Oklahoma.
Freeda had been a nurse's aid for over 10 years while working at the Oklahoma Regional Hospital in Tulsa.
She had made her home in Cushing to be closer to her kids.
She had been a member of the Free Will Baptist Church; enjoyed volunteering at the Cushing Regional Hospital and at the Cushing Senior Citizen’s Center. When she was able she enjoyed making crafts, crocheting, quilting and writing poetry.
Freeda had lived at the Linwood Nursing Home for the last few years and while she was there she loved helping the other residents there.
Survivors include one son, Bob Basden and his wife Carla of Mounds; three daughters, Alice Boyle and her husband Ray of Agra; Dorothy Basden of Cushing; and Betty Crossley and her husband Dale of Sapulpa; two brothers, Ray Gulley of Stigler; and Eugene Gulley of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; two sisters, Jewell Rankin of Henryetta, Oklahoma; and Lavern Carson of Arkoma, Oklahoma; twelve grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents, Freeda's husband Fred preceded her in death on April 1, 1966. She was also preceded in death by four sisters, Eula, Edna, Evelyn, and Eunice and one brother, Henry.
Graveside services have been entrusted to the Palmer Marler Funeral Home in Cushing and will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 26, 2007 in the Flynn Cemetery.
