VERGIE CORENE BARRETT
1940 - 2011


Vergie Corene Pruitt Barrett, retired self-employed painter, passed away on Monday evening, October 17, 2011 in her residence at the age of 71 years.
The daughter of the late, John Brown Pruitt and Violet Gertrude Rodgers Pruitt, Corene was born on January 20, 1940 in Cushing and was raised and educated in this area attending Happy Valley School and Sunnyside Schools.
She was united in marriage to Elmer Lloyd Barrett on November 1, 1958 in Purcell, Oklahoma and to this union three children, Waymon, Sheilla and Mike were born. Lloyd preceded her in death on December 26, 2002.
Corene was a member of the General Assembly and Church of the Firstborn.
She enjoyed gardening, making candy and goodies for her family and friends, spending time with her grandkids and great-grandkids and volunteering to help anybody that needed help. She always praised her grandkids for their accomplishments.
Survivors include her three children, Waymon Barrett and his wife, Tammy of Perkins; Sheilla Camren of Cushing and Mike Barrett of Perkins; nineteen grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; three brothers, Phillip Pruitt of Drumright; Johnny Pruitt of New Hope, Missouri; and Jerry Pruitt of Cushing; two sisters, Bonnie Jo Giblet of Agra; and Naomi Farrow of Cushing; several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, Corene was preceded in death by four brothers, Jimmy, Doyle, Lester and Charles; three sisters, Violet Fern Carmichael, Wanda Hamm and Marie Henderson; one granddaughter, Desiree Jean Camren and two grandsons, Casey Wright and Robby Fowble.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 21, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. in the General Assembly and Church of the Firstborn with Brother Anthony Sloate and Brother Robert Combs officiating.
Burial will follow in the Flynn Cemetery.
