HOMER O'NEIL BALLARD
1933 - 2005


Meeker resident Homer O'Neil Barnett passed away Sunday, December 11, at home following a courageous battle with leukemia.
He was born in Oklahoma City on February 28, 1933, the youngest of ten children born to Ben Homer and Lillie Alberta Williams Barnett.
Homer graduated from Northeast High School, Oklahoma City, in May 1951.
Following graduation, he served in the U.S. Air Force from 1951 to 1955. He was assigned to Lackland Air Force Base in Texas for basic training and further training at the University of Alabama. He served at Burtonwood Air Force Base, Warrington, England, and Weisbade Germany Headquarters in Europe before being transferred to Carlswell Air Force Base, Fort Worth, Texas.
He graduated with a BBA degree from the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond.
Homer married Marlene Holly at Hydro on June 2, 1956. This union was blessed with two children, Holly Ann and Kevin James.
He retired from the Oklahoma City Police Department following 20 years of service. He was then emloyed with the Oklahoma Department of Public Service for 14 years, retiring in 1995 and was a member of the Retired Police Officer's association. He enjoyed attending meetings and visiting with his many friends.
He also was a member of Morning Star Baptist Church in Meeker, Oklahoma City FOP, the Meeker Chamber of Commerce, and On the Road Again Sam RV Club.
Preceding Homer in death were his parents; five brothers, Ben Dale, Roger, Walter, Jim and John; and three sisters, Joyce Mae, Daisy and JoAnn.
Surviviors include his wife, Marlene of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Holly Ann and David Skinner of Oklahoma City; son, Kevin James Barnett of Meeker; daughter-in-law, Shelli Barnett of Shawnee; two grandchildren, Jenifer Dawn Barnett of Shawnee; and Kevin O'Neil Barnett of Shawnee; sister and brother-in-law, Nona and Frank Neal of Lyons, Colorado; sisters-in-law, Wanda Barnett of Oklahoma City; and Peggy Washington of Connerville.
Service will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at Morning Star Baptist Church in Meeker with the Rev. Ron Crews and the Rev. Glen White officiating.
Burial will follow at New Hope Cemetery in Meeker.
Viewing and visitations will be at Parks Brothers Funeral Chapel in Meeker.
For those desiring, the family requests memorials be made to the Morning Star Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 277, Meeker, Oklahoma 74855.
Services are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service in Meeker.
