MARTHA JANE ARMSTRONG
1917 - 2014
Martha Jane Armstrong, age 97 of Henryetta formerly of Cushing passed away on Sunday, May 4, 2014 at the Baptist Village in Oklahoma City.Martha was born on January 21, 1917 in Agra, Oklahoma to the late James George and Oda Martha {Hickman} Lowe.She grew up and attended school in Agra, graduating from Agra High School. She later attended Oklahoma A&M receiving her Bachelors of Science in Education in 1942 and Master of Science in 1946. She received a certificate to teach remedial reading. She taught Elementary School for 36 years, some of which were in a one room school in Lincoln County.She married the love of her life Timothy Armstrong on September 6, 1942 in Austin, Texas. He was in the military, they were transferred to numerous states where she usually taught while living in the area. They lived in Cushing, Mannford and retiring in Henryetta.She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women.Martha enjoyed reading and was a very good cook.She is survived by her siblings Elizabeth Hansen of Carney; Kathryn Flood of Cushing; Louise Davis of Tulsa; Richard Lowe of Denver, Colorado; Harold Lowe of Cushing; Ethel Jean Bradley and husband Virgil of Cushing; Ruth Ecker of Edmond; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.She was preceded in death by her husband; sisters-in-law Emma Jean Lowe, Betty Lowe and Edna Lee Lowe; brother George Lowe; brothers-in-law Bob Hansen, Tom Davis, Kenneth Elder, Melvin Ecker, and Bill Mullen; niece Pat Starling; nephews Jimmy Elder and Dale Lowe.Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, May 9, 2014 at the Palmer Marler Funeral Home Chapel, Cushing.Pastor Lorn Starling will officiate.Interment will follow at Osage Cemetery, Agra, Oklahoma. Arrangements are entrusted to Palmer Marler Funeral Home, Cushing.
