Velma Louise Lorenz was born October 18, 1929 in Wellston to Willie and Louise (Speckman) Schmidt. She passed away December 28, 2021 in Wellston at the age of 92.
Velma grew up in Wellston where she graduated from high school with the Wellston Class of 1947. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, canning, baking cinnamon rolls of which she passed her recipe on to her granddaughter. She also made flower arrangements which she proudly entered in the Wellston Fair.
Velma taught Sunday School at the Lutheran Church for 60 years. She read her bible every day. She loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She had the pleasure of being a godmother to 26 children. She should be remembered for her often used quote, “If somebody does you wrong, pray for them”.
Velma was preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Louise Schmidt; husband, Louis Lorenz; sons, John Lorenz, Roger Lorenz, Timothy Lorenz, Jerry Lorenz; grandson, Brennen Lorenz; and son-in-law, Danny Berry. Survivors include her daughter, Christina Berry and her husband Mohammed Belgamra of Wellston; (5) grandchildren, Tessie Lorenz, Jerry Lorenz II, Tammy Bond, Heather Whitnah, Shasta Berry; (14) great-grandchildren; along with other family and friends.
Visitation for Velma will be held from noon till 4:00 p.m. Sunday, January 2, 2022 at Lehman Funeral Home. A funeral will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, January 3, 2022 at the St Paul’s Lutheran Church of Wellston with interment following in the Lutheran Cemetery in Wellston. Arrangements are under the direction of Lehman Funeral Home of Wellston.
