Leroy Arthur "Dutch" Guest, long-time Davenport, Oklahoma resident, was born February 1, 1921, in Okarche, Oklahoma and departed this life February 7, 2017, in Stroud, Oklahoma at the age of 96 years.
Leroy was the son of Roy and Lillie (Ahlefeld) Guest. He graduated from Davenport High School in 1939 and while attending Oklahoma State University, WWII began. Leroy served as an infantry officer with the United States 3rd Army, 87th Division during the war. In Germany on the night March 24, 1945, his company crossed the Rhine River and afterwards he was wounded during combat. Leroy returned back to the States, and while staying at a hospital in Texas, he met the future Mrs. Guest, Clarice (Sally). They married on April 4, 1947. During his military service, he attained the Rank of Captain, and was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. Leroy returned to Oklahoma to continue his college education. He held both a bachelors and masters degree of mathematics from Oklahoma State University. In 1953, Leroy moved back to Davenport to manage the phone company owned by his parents. He began adding on, building up, and revitalizing the phone system which previously was unable to keep pace with the demand, and in 1954, the company took the name it proudly carries today, the Central Oklahoma Telephone Company. Leroy was a long-time member of the Davenport First Baptist Church, acting city treasurer for the town of Davenport from 1953 to 1979, and served twenty years with the Davenport Volunteer Fire Department.
His parents and wife preceded Leroy in death.
